It's finally spring break! Weeelllll....... It WAS spring break a couple weeks ago, and it's not actually called spring break here at CDU, it's Easter Break. Still..... SPRING BREAK!!!! I really didn't do too much, but it was soooo much fun. It was also really nice to get a break from classes. The first couple days were all part of Easter and everything that happened went into my Easter blog. Needless to say, break was off to a really good start.
Monday and Tuesday I spent mostly doing homework for my visual arts class and studying for my Chinese midterm. I wanted to get that done as soon as possible so I wouldn't have to worry about it the rest of break. However, I am a master at procrastination and I didn't do most of it until a couple days before it was due (aka the night before it was due). To be fair though, I had a lot to do for both and I had actually been working on them before break as well so it wasn't a total fail.
On Wednesday I just did more of the same, but I did go with Devyn to the shops to get a few things for our camping trip that we didn't have. That night, I went to the beach and watched the sunset. It was so beautiful and I was a little glad to be there on my own. It gave me some time to think and I was able to just sit and take it all in. It really just made me that much more grateful for this opportunity that I've been given to be here.

The next day was opening night for the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets! Devyn and I were planning on taking the shuttle from IHD, but of course it was the one time everyone was on time for something and there wasn't enough room so we just split an Uber with a couple of the other students. That Uber driver was SO rude! He didn't know where he was going, he kept telling us 'the markets don't open until April', and he kept complaining about the traffic, it was seriously so awful. One girl that came in the Uber with us gave the driver so much sass and it was so great. He was going off about how we should've checked to see when the markets are opened because they don't open until April and all this stuff about how they aren't going to be open and this girl says, 'I don't know what month you're in, but I'm in April'. I was DYING it was so funny. It was a bit of a 'you had to be there' moment, but it was so great at the time.
When we FINALLY got there, there were so many people! It was actually crazy how busy it was. All the shops were so cute though and Devyn was able to get a bunch of stuff to bring back home for her family. We also got crocodile jerky which was actually not bad. It didn't have much of a flavor and I probably wouldn't ever seek it out, but if it was the last thing in my pantry I'd probably eat it again. Devyn and I also got some super cute hennas too. However, they only lasted about a week which sucked. I get them at home all the time and they have always lasted so much longer on me. There was also this stand where they were selling whips and the guy that ran it put on a show to demonstrate how they worked and he lit some of them on fire! He was just chillin' there waving the whips around in the air like it was no big deal. It was so crazy! Then at about 8:30, there were fireworks! Everyone was sitting out on the sand to watch. Just so you know, when you could possibly be eaten by a crocodile at any moment, the beach is seriously terrifying at night. Anyways, the fireworks were so pretty and they were so fun to watch. After they were over, Devyn and I got some food and caught an Uber home.
The next morning we got up bright and early for our camping trip! We went to Katherine Gorge, Edith Falls, Katherine, Nitmiluk, Cutta Cutta Caves and some hot springs. We got home from the camping trip on Sunday (my birthday!) and that was just about it for spring break! I'll have more about that part in another blog post!
