Devyn and I are finally out of Darwin and in Brisbane! I was really sad to be leaving, but I’m excited to get to explore a new place. For our last day in Darwin, Devyn and I went down to the beach to watch the sunset one last time and we also lit sparklers. I’m really going to miss Darwin, but leaving just means I’m one step closer to going home and seeing my family!
That night, we decided to leave for the airport at 9:30 because our flight was at 1 in the morning and I am SO glad that we did. It took us about two and a half hours to check in! When we got there, we were told that we couldn’t check in at all until 10:30 so we sat and waited by the door until then. When we got up to the desk to check in, our checked bags were a few kilograms over, and they ended up weighing our carry-on bags as well! I definitely wasn’t expecting that and we were WAY over the limit with those bags. We spent over an hour sitting there trying to rearrange our bags and get everything under the weight limit. We ended up having to pay $410AUD to get our stuff checked in which was absolutely ridiculous. Finally, at about 12:30 we made it to our gate and then we were off to Brisbane!
Devyn and I were both asleep for the majority of the plane ride, but the ride was pretty smooth. Nothing like our flight from LA to Phoenix which was basically just a giant rollercoaster. We landed a bit early, at around 5am and then headed to baggage claim. We grabbed our bags off the carousel and sat down to wake up a bit more and take a break from running around. It took forever to figure out how to get to our Airbnb from the airport, but when we did we hopped into a cab at around 6:30. We got the keys from the apartment owner’s neighbor and then spent the next hour or so trying to figure out how to get into the apartment. We were not told the address, floor, or apartment number of where we were staying and it was especially difficult to get ahold of the apartment owner. However, we finally got in and by 9 we were taking a nice, long nap.
Once we had woken up and were all settled in, we walked to the movies at about three or four. It took us about an hour to get the river, and then we had to take a ferry across to go the rest of the way. Luckily, the ferry driver was closing down for the night so we got to ride for free.
When we got to the theatre (Balmoral Cinemas) we were blown away. This movie theatre was SO awesome! It looked a bit like the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on the inside. The theatres were covered in red velvet and chandeliers. The seats were velvet, the floor, the walls, the curtains, everything was red. It was gorgeous! The curtains opened for the movie and everything, it was seriously like something straight out of an old movie. We ended up seeing Aladdin and it was sooooo good! I honestly think that it’s the best live action Disney remake so far. After the movie was over we just headed back and went to bed!
It was the perfect start to our stay here in Brisbane and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us here!
